St Mark's Sacrament Holy Communion
In this Sacrament we remember what Jesus did for us in his life, death and resurrection. We focus particularly on the Last Supper, that final meal Jesus shared with his disciples.
At that meal Jesus gave us the Eucharist so that we could remember him in a special way. When we receive Communion, we believe that we receive the person of Jesus info our very beings. We become one with him, and we become one with each other. As a community we become 'the body of Christ'.
Holy Communion is taken to the sick and housebound by Eucharist Ministers. Because the Eucharist is our great sign of unity as a community, one must be a Catholic to receive Holy Communion.
Holy Communion | First Eucharist Program:
In the Sacrament of Holy Communion | First Eucharist candidates receive the Body of Christ and the precious Blood for the first time.
It is the practice of the Archdiocese of Sydney that children receive their Holy Communion in Year 3 or above. Candidates must be Baptised and have received the Sacrament of First Reconciliation (Penance | Confession).
Children aged 7 years & over from a variety of schools come together to learn and celebrate as a united Parish community. As we part of the Sydney Archdiocese, we follow their programs. Our successful sacramental program runs through:
- Information Session and a Commitment Mass,
compulsory attendance to both by parent & child. - Four weekly one hour group preparation sessions,
compulsory for parent to accompany their child & be an actively involved. - Attendance essential to weekly Masses during the course of the program.
- Prayer & Practising evening
compulsory attendance for parents to accompany their child, which also includes a rehearsal of their Mass Liturgy.
