St Mark's The Sacrament of Baptism

The sacrament of Baptism, the gateway to the Sacraments and necessary for salvation by actual reception or at least by desire, is validly conferred only by a washing of true water with the proper form of words. Through Baptism men and women are freed from sin, are reborn as Children of God, and, configured to Christ by an indelible character, are incorporated into the Church (Cannon 849).

Most Catholic families Baptised their children soon after birth. However, sometimes people are Baptised later, or even as adults.

As parents, you have already given your child the gift of life and you nurture that gift by the love you give to your child. In asking to have your child Baptised you are expressing your wish to share your Christian faith with your child.

The parish community of St. Mark's welcomes families who apply to celebrate the Baptism of a child.

Here at St. Mark's, Baptism's are celebrated on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10.30am. Bookings are required as we limit the number of Baptisms at each celebration. If you have a special circumstance contact our Pastoral Associate.

Baptismal Preparation:
The parish community is ready to support parents as they undertake the important responsibility of teaching their child about the Christian life. To help you to prepare for this important celebration and to understand the full meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism, the Parish Priest and Baptismal team encourage you to attend the parish preparation evening on the first Sunday of the month at 4.00pm upstairs in the Parish Pastoral Centre. Bookings are essential.

For more information or to arrange a booking and preparation, please complete the Baptismal application form & return to our Pastoral Associate email: for a reply within 10 working days or contact the Parish Office on 9181 1795.
